Sacramento banned encampments within 500 feet of schools
The City Council recently passed a local ban on encampments within 500 feet of schools and two state bills aim to ban encampments within a certain distance of "protected areas", though both bills define those spaces differently.
SB 31 lists schools, daycare centers, parks, or libraries as protected areas while AB 257 applies to schools, daycare centers, playgrounds, or youth centers. The common denominator: schools.
Neither bill defines the areas that are not schools with enough clarity for us to put them on the map.
